So, my cousin (a boy) has like, shoulder length hair. His bishop won't let him go to Youth Conference unless he gets it cut. And his seminary teacher practically told him that he and his friend were going to...not the celestial kingdom...It's terrible! His mom has already been offended so much by the people in their ward that she's stopped coming. I don't understand why people can't just be accepting. Anyway, do you think guys having long hair is bad?

Anyway, do you think guys having long hair is bad? Don't you love it when judgemental members drive others away? 1) Jesus himself had long hair. Sampson had long hair. I'm sure there are many others from the Bible/Book of Mormon that had long hair. We are judged by our works, not our looks. Long hair won't keep him out of the Celestial Kingdom. Shame on them for saying that. 2) However, long hair does have negative conotations in today's world. Short hair looks neater, is more professional, and is generally more accepted in our society. As long as he is being a good kid, let him grow his hair out. Last time I checked, there was no dress code for Youth Conference (or Heaven), so I don't see why he needs his bishop's permission to attend.

I believe there is a standard on long hair, President Hinckley gave it... it had something to do with being well groomed and also to be as missionaries (they have a hair cut limit).
However, the Bishop has no right to keep a child out of youth conference because of his hair… Sadly people are going to be offended by members no matter what position they hold or where they are in life. At least this offence is only about hair. Trust me, it gets much worse the stronger you get.
Everyone thinks that offence is only given to those who are not perfect or those who don’t like church as much or do not seem so churchy… I just laugh when I hear that idea… the higher you get up in the church or the more you try to be righteous, the more and painful the offence becomes. Just pray for him and that those who have sought to judge him will measure their own sins, but hair is simply not a big deal… I don’t mean to make a standard over, I mean to make a conflict over.
I admit that I have a problem understanding it as well but I have learned that sometimes standards are given that make no sense, but if we are obedient with the small things (such as hair) we become that much more obedient to obey the larger things… such as giving up your life just about just to serve the Lord.

In the Strenght of Youth booklet it says for young men that they should not wear their hair long. That it should be short cut. Basicly like the missionaries whom are good examples of what the young men of the church should look like. *this is coming from someone who is thinking of dying their hair blonde since hes sick of being a dirty blonde...* lol I have allways worn my hair short and tried letting it grow out and my mom wouldnt let me...so i took the scissors and did it myself...(well i did good the first time...if only my sister didnt take the hand mirror with her to BYU...i did good on the front...the back thats a diff. story. the barber had to give me a crew cut to fix it)

the long hair thing. yes its true members shouldnt ridicule it does drive others away, 1) they shouldtn have let the members get to them like that, they only hurt themselves by not going. but yet again the long hair thing, i love it! but as members we are representatives of the church, and we should, nuf said. why cant he just cut it to his ears? its not that bad. mindy07

i know that in my stake the bishops are responsible for making sure that all of the youth attending youth conference follow the strength of youth council...and yes it does mention boys having a nice, clean hair cut.
